Microaggressions & Micro-Resistance Workshop

MAG and MR Summer Series WCC flyer.jpg

“Where are you from? You are so articulate!”

“Your language skills are really good!”

“You are such a nurturing teacher!”

Microaggressions. You know what they are. You have probably heard or seen them hundreds of times -- you may even have unintentionally participated in them. They are those words, actions, or settings that (often unconsciously) express stereotyped and prejudiced attitudes towards members of marginalized groups. Although often occurring with neutral or even good intentions—in fact, verbal ones are sometimes even intended as compliments! —their impact can be huge.

But what do you do when they show up in your life (or the lives of loved ones)? How do you react, resist, and/or repair in their wake?

This workshop is a practical, interactive session in which we will discuss what microaggressions are, how they affect us and our loved ones, and strategies of "micro-resistance" and “repair” we can take whether we're the receiver, doer, or bystander. By the end of this workshop, you will have some practical tools for identifying microaggressions and mitigating their effects.
