With a new year of live and virtual conferences coming up, the WCC Mentorship Program Team wants to offer you a quick primer on how to make the most of your conference experience – just in time for the SCS 2022. So, we put together CONFERENCING 101: A Pop-up Event!
Come learn and share tips for attending and presenting at conferences. This session is for first-time presenters, people on the job market, early career scholars aspiring to publish, advisers and mentors for conference-goers, and anyone at any stage looking to enhance their conference experience. Volunteer mentors from our On-Demand Mentorship Program will facilitate breakout room discussions on the following topics:
Presenting at the Conference (e.g. best practices for the talk and handouts/powerpoints, making eye contact, etc.)
Making the Most of the Conference Experience (e.g. how to meet new people and senior scholars, email follow-up etc.)
Conferencing while on the Job Market (e.g. networking, attending panels, prepping for interviews, etc.)
Conferencing while Publishing (e.g. meeting publishers, sharing book pitch, etc.)
Attendees will be allowed to move between the rooms. In addition to these, we also plan to have a “hangout room” where current members, mentors, and mentees can meet each other and have a more informal discussion.
This event is open to members and non-members, so spread the word!
