The Women’s Classical Caucus and Lambda Classical Caucus invite you to participate in a jointly hosted Reading Group featuring the 2025-26 paper prize winners. We will meet virtually to discuss these two articles on Thursday June, 4 from 4:00-5:00 PM ET.

The Barbara McManus Award for Best Article (awarded by the WCC):

Kassandra Miller, "Intentional Menstrual Suppression in Imperial Rome," JRS 114 (2024): 27– 59.

The Paul Rehak Award (awarded by the LCC):

Melissa Mueller, "Plaiting and Poikilia: The Materialities of Sappho's Craft," in Sappho and Homer: A Reparative Reading, Cambridge University Press (2023), pp. 59-88.

The readings can be found in the folder at this link

Some discussion questions to consider as you read:

1)    What challenged or delighted you in the article?

2)    What areas of scholarship do these articles impact?

3)    What are some texts (primary or secondary) or material evidence with which these articles could be productively read?

4)    What are some contexts in which you might assign these articles in a class?

Thank you for joining us as we celebrate our award winners!

p.s. Please remember to nominate for the 2026-27 WCC Paper and Advocacy Prizes. Deadline is July 1.
