October 2021 Newsletter
Dear WCC members,
It has been a busy few months of transition and re-entry into the school year. We have all had a lot on our plates and been grateful to the WCC community as a source of connection, community, and support.
The WCC Leadership Team has been hard at work planning both programming and content for the academic year in several areas which you in the membership have identified as priorities. In this newsletter, we have some exciting announcements about upcoming events, the WCC 50th Anniversary, and more! We also have a huge favor to ask of you for our “WCC at 50” celebrations: please take a moment to contribute a short selfie video telling us what WCC has meant to you.
To recap the past few months...We are happy to say that both of our 6-part summer series on the topics of Social Justice and Reflective Pedagogy were a huge success! Additionally, attendees of our September Reading Group, co-hosted with TransInClassics, and participants in our new AcaParenting Series workshops, engaged in rich discussions of how we can better support each other as colleagues and friends both in our daily lives and in our scholarship. We had great attendance at all of our events over the past few months and collected wonderful feedback, along with the suggestion that we repeat some of the individual modules in the future.
Keeping this momentum going, we are excited to share the launch of the WCC Publishing Series, which kicks off with two events focusing on writing book proposals -- just in time for the SCS/AIA Annual Meeting when some of you might be meeting with publishers! The first two events of the series are in December with more planned for the Spring. See below for more details on this and all of our WCC news.

1. WCC 50th Anniversary at the SCS 2022 -- submit your short video!
The 2022 SCS Annual Meeting is approaching quickly! The WCC will be live at the meeting in San Francisco as well as virtual. Click here to read about our two (yes, 2!) panels. We will post the schedule of our events on our website soon, so stay tuned!
As part of our 50th celebration, we would also like to make a very special request to you and the entire membership to contribute to a video montage we are creating in commemoration of the WCC’s first fifty years.
We will present parts of the video at our WCC at 50 panel and will create a longer version for posterity to be hosted on our website. You all are an important part of the WCC community, and we would like to feature as many of your voices as possible!
We wanted to make it easy for you, so it should only take 10-15 minutes total to read the guidelines and record your video on your phone or zoom. So please consider contributing -- click here for more info and to submit your short video!
Deadline: December 11, 2021 at 5pm
2. WCC Member Survey – shape the WCC
We encourage you to fill out the 2021 WCC Member Questionnaire if you haven’t already (or to submit an updated response). Your feedback on past or future events will help us plan our programming.
We would particularly appreciate ideas that we can feature in the WCC’s 50th anniversary celebration at the 2022 Annual Meeting.
3. WCC Panel Winner for the 2023 SCS
We are delighted to announce that the WCC panel for the 2023 SCS Annual Meeting is “Women and the Ancient Economy: Past, Present, and Future.” Thank you for voting, and thanks to those who submitted panel proposals. Please stay tuned for the call for papers, and consider submitting a paper abstract!
As you can see from our past and future offerings, we are listening and working hard to fulfill your requests! Please spread the word about WCC and encourage your colleagues and students to join the WCC! Also share your updates and consider hosting or suggesting a WCC Event!
Stay tuned for more announcements over the next few weeks celebrating the work and members of our community!
In support and solidarity,
